Paul Zimmer received his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University (1965) and his legal training from Wayne State University Law School (1969). He joined LaPointe & Associates, P.C., as of-counsel in January 1998. From 1969 to 1997 he was an assistant attorney general with the Michigan Attorney General's office. He served in the Education Division from 1978 to 1997, where he was the Assistant-in-Charge of that division from 1990 until his retirement in June 1997. He has served as legal counsel to the State Board of Education, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Michigan Department of Education (MDE), the Governor, Legislature and other state departments on education and school finance matters. The major emphasis of Paul's tenure with the Attorney General's Office was devoted to special education and school finance issues. From 1978 to 1995, he was the legal adviser to the State Board and MDE for all revisions of Michigan's Administrative Rules for Special Education.
