4. On April 27th, an Ingham county Circuit Court judge issued a preliminary injunction enjoining the Michigan Department of Education from closing the public comment period on the proposed special education rules until September 30th, 2001.  Click here to read more.

6. On April 17, 2001, The Michigan Department of Education released a memo extending the period of public comment and adding new public hearing dates.

7. Copies of Pleadings filed in recent lawsuit over proposed special education rules

In a recent lawsuit filed in Ingham County Circuit Court, the Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order prohibiting the Department of Education from closing the period of public comment on the proposed rules before April 27, 2001 at 5:00pm. The Court also enjoined the Department from referring the proposed rules to the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR).  A hearing on plaintiffs' request for a preliminary injunction is scheduled for April 27th at 1:00pm.  Click below to see copies of pleadings filed in this case.
